Bilel Bali

Bilel BALI was born on September 6, 1982, in Sfax. He pursued higher education in design sciences and technologies, specializing in audiovisual advertising. A video editor and assistant director since 2006, he earned his Master’s degree in 2008 and was a university teacher until January 2024 before moving to Canada. As a director of numerous commercials, films, and television productions, his first feature-length documentary, "1, 2, 3, ..., 5, 6, 7, ...," released in June 2012, won several awards, including the Silver FIFOG in Geneva in 2014. His first fiction film, "Action Extras !", was selected for numerous festivals and won several awards: Best Actress Award at the Maghreb Short Film Festival in Oujda (Morocco); Best Short Film Award at Vues d’Afrique (Montreal, Canada); Best Arab Short Film Award at the Alexandria Mediterranean Countries Film Festival (Egypt); Grand Prize for Best Short Film at the Muscat International Film Festival (Oman) Bilel directed the sitcom "Yemma bentek rahi hasla" for Algerian national television in 2016, and the series "Achour 10" (season 2) for the private channel Chourouk in 2017. In 2020, he directed a documentary on the management of the Covid-19 pandemic, produced by the German channel DW and the Tunisian radio station IFM. In 2021, he produced and directed "SKALA", a short fiction film that won an award at the Cairo International Short Film Festival. His third short fiction film, "It’s a small world", produced by Audimage and Digital Iris, premiered at the Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt in February 2024. "It’s a small world" was also selected for the official competition at the Malmö Arab Film Festival, further establishing Bilel BALI's reputation as a talented director on the international stage. Since April 2024, Bilel has been a member of the "Association des Réalisateurs et Réalisatrices du Québec" (Association of Directors of Quebec) in Canada.
